Introducing a folk band about to take over the world: Scotland’s Talisk are one of the best live acts in the UK and on the festival circuit right now, producing raucous crowd energy and stadium-sized sound with just a concertina, fiddle, and guitar. It’s Mohsen Amini, Benedict Morris, and Charlie Galloway on stage with three acoustic instruments — and yet it’s their indescribable ability to concoct the most addictive, trance-like explosion of folk that has propelled them to cult status. Talisk are a Scottish folk trio founded in 2015. Their accolades include multiple BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Scotland folk awards, a MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Award for ‘Folk Band of the Year’ in 2017, and the Belhaven Bursary for Innovation in Scottish Music, the largest music prize in Scotland. Since appearing on BBC’s Hogmanay New Year’s Eve show in 2022, their popularity has skyrocketed, both online (15 million+ streams) and live at festivals in Europe, North America and Asia. AAF will be among Talisk’s first performances in Aotearoa.
