The global smash-hit musical CHICAGO is coming to Auckland this July and August, in a spectacular new production that brings all the glitz, glamour, and scandal of 1920s Chicago to life like never before.
The brand-new production, directed by Kiwi creative institution Michael Hurst(Opens in new tab) will play at the Bruce Mason Centre from 31 July for a strictly limited season then transfer to the Isaac Theatre Royal for seven performances only, from 20 August.
The fully-professional cast will feature international and New Zealand singers, dancers and actors, telling a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one showstopping song after another including Razzle Dazzle, Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz; and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen.
This performance of Chicago The Musical is Audio Described. Patrons will listen to trained audio describers broadcasting live commentary during the show, which they will hear through a supplied earpiece. There are seats reserved for blind or low vision patrons and their companions. There will be a free touch tour prior to the show. Tickets for these seats are at a discounted price of $89.90 (plus service fees) and a companion ticket is available at the same price if required. Such a shame that the talent in this production was overshadowed by the ‘shock’ factors that did not need to be included. Having seen the show internationally it was not necessary to include the nudity, and graphic content. Doing so restricts the ability to recommend going to a wider audience. With good theatre in NZ being a rare treat, it really was disappointing that the producer thought changing the show this way would be a good idea.
Magnificent show. Singing, dancing, choreography, humor, band – all were fantastic. One of the most entertaining shows I've seen. Went back and saw it again, even better the second time!

Excellent performances all round: that’s the acting, singing, dancing and music. There were many very inventive scenes, with almost endless full-stage movement adding depth and excitement to every scene. We all loved it.

Charators well casted, dancing and stage effects great. It's nice to see the band on stage. Often players get shoved in a dressing room. Nice to see equal footing with instrumentalists. A first class showall around.
Vocals were incredible, dance was gorgeous and interpreted beautifully, sound and lights excited and dazzled. Thinking about seeing it again. Was amazing. Highly recommend.
Everyone was an incredible vocalist and I loved the live band, costumes, and set. It felt way over sexualised which ruined it a little but I’ve never seen the live show before so don’t know if that’s how it normally is
