About

ZZ TOP New Zealand 2025

ZZ TOP, “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” has been at it for well over a half century, delivering rock, blues and boogie on the road and in the studio to millions of devoted fans.  With classic songs such as “Sharp Dressed Man”, “Legs” and “Gimme Me All Your Lovin” and iconography as distinctive as their sound, ZZ TOP is virtually synonymous with beards, hot-rod cars, spinning guitars and that magic keychain, all of which transcend geography and language.
As a touring entity, the bands current line-up of Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and Elwood Francis have performed before millions of fans on four continents.
They have sold hundreds of millions of records over the course of their career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (by Keith Richards, no less) and have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms. They are true rock icons and, against all odds, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done.

  • Good venue experience

by Paula on 18/05/2025Spark Arena - AucklandRating: 4 out of 5

Good venue experience. Easy to get in, easy exit strategy. Friendly staff who went about their duties well. Wondered if there were sound issues with both acts though?

  • A Awesome show by all of the entertainers

by Elvis fan on 18/05/2025Spark Arena - AucklandRating: 5 out of 5

A brilliant event my only gripe is why do the people who are up and down all though the show whether to buy drinks or visit the loo always sitting in the middle of the row. so making people miss parts of the concert. buy on the end of the row people. Think about other people

  • Main Act Disappointment

by Hmmmmm on 18/05/2025Spark Arena - AucklandRating: 2 out of 5

Firstly the premium lounge was well worth the extra cost, great food and drinks and very friendly staff. Opening act was George Thorogood, absolutely amazing great songs and great performer, engaging and energetic. Great performance George. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for ZZ Top, in fact I’d have to say it’s time to retire boys, this act was the complete opposite to George lacking energy and crowd engagement, but what I found most disappointing was the fact that I couldn’t hear a single word, perhaps the sound guys need a kick up the a*#, can’t fault their guitar playing, truly talented guys but without the lyrics it was just an hour of screaming guitar’s. Perhaps they should have been opening for George Thorogood

  • Wow what an awesome concert

by Lil on 18/05/2025Spark Arena - AucklandRating: 5 out of 5

We were entertained from start to finish. Thoroughly enjoyed Delease from Melbourne the opening act she certainly made her guitar talk ( fantastic guitarist) . We eagerly awaited George Thoroughgood and The Destroyers to come on , Well worth the wait 👍 such an amazing experience. Then came the highlight of the concert the fantastic ZZ Top !!!! Wow what an incredibly talented group 🤗 We the audience danced , sang and just sat back and enjoyed the music . Thank you so much ZZ Top, George Thoroughgood and The Destroyers and Delease from Melbourne for fantastic performances. We’ll definitely be going to more of their concerts in the future.🎶

  • A bit cheated

by Lardy on 18/05/2025Wolfbrook Arena - ChristchurchRating: 5 out of 5

Both George Thorogood and ZZ top were floorless in their performances, but on leaving Wolfbrook arena I couldn't help feeling a little cheated. Billy, Elwood and crew were excellent, but their set seemed rushed with a lack of connection with the audience. On my bucket list for years I felt disappointed. But on reflection Friday morning I realised that Christchurch cheated both George and his gang and Billy and co. Let me explain, the security members restricted people wanting to get up from their seats to dance until too many to be disciplined could be sent back. It's a rock concert guys, why were there seats in the first place, it ruined the vibe. After Thorogood's set George returned to the stage and took a bow and was pretty much ignored by the crowd, I was disappointed for him and I cannot think what he said to each bands members back stage. Maybe that's why the ZZ guys seemed intent on getting their set over quickly. Don't get me wrong the performance was nothing short of brilliance, but no real connection to the crowd.... maybe the crowds' fault? When Billy and friends finished 'Le Grange' they left the stage with no goodbyes and worst of all the audience let them go! Yes clapping and cheering, but it fizzled to nothing so quickly. I expected the rafters to vibrate and the floor to bounce in appreciation and at least an encore or two but the crowd just got up and left! Maybe things are different now from my memories of great concerts growing up in 80s and beyond but I think Christchurch cheated both George Thorogood and ZZ Top. I'd love to see them both back, their performances were better than I expected, so thank you, but I can only apologize for the lack luster reception they received. I do hope that the bands read the reviews.
