PARKY TO PLAY HOST FOR NIGHT OF MOVIE MUSIC MAGIC
Symphony at the Movies presented by Michael Parkinson

Arguably the world's most loved TV talk-show host, Michael Parkinson, brings a touch of true celebrity to the stage when he teams up with each Australian state orchestra in a tribute to music in the movies throughout February and March 2012.

Sharing his love of the silver screen and the stars that make it shine, Parky adds his own unique brand of wit, charm and banter to the line-up of music from film classics.

This is a rare opportunity, not only to see the king of talk-show live on stage, but also to re-visit the songs that have made us laugh, cry and swoon from moves like Casablanca, Ben-Hur, The Magnificent Seven, Mission Impossible, The Godfather and many more.
While each orchestra will hold audiences captive with the music by composers such as John Williams, Lalo Schifrin and Henry Mancini, Parky will have them entranced with memories and stories about his interviews with the stars of these classic movies.

"What a thrill it will be to travel around Australia to present concerts celebrating some of the finest music ever penned," said Parkinson.

"Movie music has the power to move us and conjure images and times in our lives like no other partform," he added.
Also joining Parky on stage will be Australian-born vocalist Jo Lawry, most recently seen by hundreds of
thousands of fans across Australia and New Zealand when she shared the stage with Sting on his recent
tour.

Parkinson interviewed some 3,000 of the world's most famous people on his talk show Parkinson which started in 1971 and ran for a total of more than 20 years on BBC TV and ITV. His silver screen guests included such luminaries as Jimmy Cagney, Orson ells, Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Stewart, Sean Connery
and Woody Allen.

In June 2000, Parkinson was invested as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Prince Charles for services to broadcasting, and in 2008 was bestowed a Knighthood by the Queen.
In 2000, his TV show Parkinson was ranked 8th in a British Film Institute list of the 100 Greatest British
Television Programs Of All Time.
