Black Swan, White Swan
The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s new production Black Swan, White Swan is a magnificent re-telling of ballet’s most enduring classic, Swan Lake. This stripped down, elemental version of the story focuses on Siegfried’s struggle with ideal love, pure evil, temptation, and most of all, himself. This is a Swan Lake for the 21st century.
Choreographers from three continents, sharing New Zealand stages this winter. George Balanchine’s Serenade: 28 dancers moving through time and space, supremely structured yet somehow free. William Forsythe’s Artifact II: a blast of neon and strobe. Stand to Reason by Andrea Schermoly: drama, drive, pulsating beauty - a powerful new commission celebrating the boldness of the brave women who won the vote.
Hansel & Gretel
For Christmas 2019, the Royal New Zealand Ballet is proud to present Hansel & Gretel, a new two-act ballet by Loughlan Prior, with a specially commissioned score by Claire Cowan. This major premiere brings together many of New Zealand’s creative talents to tell a timeless tale for audiences young and old.
