With horns in hand, the Richter City Rebels know how to rock a room.

This nine-piece brass band draws on the rich traditions of blues, jazz, soul and funk that make up the New Orleans sound. If you loved the music on TV show Treme, this act will be for you. Trumpet player Alexis French (Harbour City Electric, The Black Seeds) returned from New York in 2011. The result – Wellington’s first and finest New Orleans band – Richter City Rebels. Incorporating original compositions, pop music and hip-hop, the Rebels embody the musical traditions of that famous Louisiana city.

The band has an all-star line-up, with members hailing from all corners of New Zealand and from different musical genres, including classical orchestras, jazz ensembles and even a hardcore metal band.

So, come to the mardi gras with some Rebels, who’ll take you on a journey to New Orleans.
