About Rezz

Rezz on Tour

As the title of Rezz's 2019 single makes clear, we are living in a "Dark Age" — and with the track's foreboding goth atmosphere, industrial-strength synths and predatory drum breaks, the Canadian EDM phenom is providing a suitably unsettling soundtrack for it. But onstage, Rezz is all light. From the trademark illuminated glasses she wears while working the decks, to the sensory-overloading visuals that fill the massive screens behind her, Rezz's live show is as blinding as the beats are bludgeoning. "Dark Age" is the first teaser from Rezz's Beyond the Senses EP, and true to its title, it sees her moving outside the realm of mere beat-making — each track on the EP was designed in tandem with a companion virtual-reality world, and its release coincided with a Rezz concert hosted online in VR. But for those who crave the IRL Rezz experience, the DJ made appearances at major EDM festivals throughout 2019, capped by a return visit to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, the site of a now-annual gathering she's dubbed Rezz Rocks.

Rezz Background

When you grow up in the tourist town of Niagara Falls, Ontario, your career options are generally limited to service jobs in local casinos, hotels and restaurants. But when a teenaged Isabelle Rezazadeh started skipping out on her waitressing shifts to hit weekend EDM parties up the highway in Toronto, she found more than just an escape — she found her life's calling. Adopting the name Rezz (stylized as REZZ), the self-taught producer started out making tracks that fused the visceral energy of EDM with the dark vibes of teenage alt-rock faves like My Chemical Romance and exotic textures that nod to her Ukranian/Iranian heritage. After shamelessly promoting herself on social media and message boards, she caught the attention of dubstep deity Skrillex, who offered to release her 2015 EP Insurrection through his OWSLA label network. She also found a fan in fellow Canadian DJ Attlas, who was signed to deadmau5's Mau5trap imprint and brought Rezz into the masked beat-master's orbit. It's proven to be a fruitful partnership — Rezz's first two albums for Mau5trap, Mass Manipulation and Certain Kind of Magic, both cracked the Top 20 on the Billboard Dance chart, with the latter record earning Rezz a Juno Award in Canada for Electronic Album of the Year in 2018.
