The original and still the world’s best classical cross-over group, Il Divo, are heading to New Zealand for one concert only in October.

The multi-national vocal quartet performs at Spark Arena, Auckland on Saturday 27 October as part of their Timeless world tour coinciding with the release of a new album.

As one of the best-selling music groups in the world, Il Divo has become a global touring phenomenon having sold over 30 million albums worldwide, achieved more than 50 No.1 records, received over 160 Gold and Platinum sales awards in 35 countries and staged four ground-breaking world tours. 

They have performed in front of the world’s great and good – from President Barack Obama to Her Majesty the Queen, shared microphones with fellow superstars from Barbra Streisand to Celine Dion, and their sell-out concerts have been attended by Hollywood icons including Tom Hanks and Robert De Niro.

The supergroup comprises Switzerland’s Urs Bühler, Spaniard Carlos Marín, the USA’s David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard of France.  Il Divo came together following an international search that discovered the fabulous four. They have released seven studio albums to date, most recently in 2015, and are set to release another album in August in New Zealand, through Universal Music, with a brand-new single going to air in mid-May.

The Auckland concert will be the first in nearly a decade for the foursome and Carlos Marín says the group can’t wait to return to New Zealand.

“We are very excited to be coming back to your beautiful country after so many years as we have missed playing for our fantastic fans in New Zealand. We can’t wait to bring you our beautiful Il Divo music including all the classics and songs from our new album, Timeless.”

Their romantic and timeless repertoire always find a way to the hearts of their fans, which as a quartet, is what sets them apart from their contemporaries.

"People might be surprised by this new album," suggests tenor David Miller. "Our goal was to approach it with fresh ears and fresh spirits; and try some different things. We've still got all the cannons and fireworks, but there is more range, different dynamics, light and shade, more colour. t's a more complete album."

The band’s sold-out Amor & Pasión dates in 2016 in Europe, USA and Asia, had critics praising their ability to “ignite hearts” (Brighton Argus) with their effortless charm and “magnificent vocals” (Belfast Live).  Hits including “Regresa a mi (Unbreak My Heart)”, “The Time of Our Lives”, “Si voy a perderte (Don't wanna lose you)” and “I Believe in You (Je crois en toi)” have delighted audiences in their live shows.

Il Divo is an incredible success story of four people, from different nationalities and backgrounds, who have proven to the world that music transcends borders and definitions.

Il Divo performs one New Zealand concert ONLY on their Timeless Tour at Spark Arena, Auckland on Saturday 27 October. Tickets go on general public sale on Thursday 10 May at 9am.

Il Divo were brought together by pop impresario Simon Cowell in 2004, following an extensive worldwide audition process. The virtuoso blending of operatic technique with romantic and popular song took the world by storm and they pioneered the genre of classical cross-over music or ‘popera’.

In the 14 years since they have sold more than 30 million copies of their albums with 160 certified Gold and Platinum hits in 35 different countries, they were names ‘Artist of the Decade’ at the 2011 Classic Brit Awards and were the first classical cross-over group in history to reach the top of the Billboard 200 (USA) list in 2005.
