About

BEN ELTON

AUTHENTIC STUPIDITY

**** GENIUS – THE TIMES

**** A COMEDY GREAT GIVES MODERN LIFE A GRILLING – THE TELEGRAPH

**** A CROSS-GEN HIT – THE GUARDIAN

Following the huge success of Ben Elton’s critically acclaimed sold-out New Zealand tour in 2021, which marked his return to live comedy after a fifteen year hiatus, the undisputed godfather of modern stand-up is going back on the road with his new show – Authentic Stupidity.

Ben says ’Since my last live tour a whole new existential threat has emerged to threaten humanity! Apparently Artificial Intelligence is going to destroy us all! Well I reckon our real problem isn’t Artificial Intelligence it’s good old fashioned Authentic Stupidity! Forget AI! It’s AS we need to be worrying about!'

Ben Elton first exploded into the national consciousness back in the 1980’s hosting Channel 4’s ground breaking Saturday Live and he's been setting the standard for gag filled, taboo busting, tonsil rattling, mind expanding stand-up comedy ever since!

Ben was so funny! I was literally crying with laughter! Witty and intelligent, and talking about the current stuff in society and life! Really recommend this show, had a great night!

Superb. Outrageous, challenging, thought provoking and very funny. Shows how important comedy is to a healthy society.

  • Ben is a living legend

by Stein on 29/04/2025Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre - AucklandRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Elton is a living legend. Can still bring tears to the eyes with his style of story telling that still pack a punch. Knows how to have a good rant. Seeing Ben and you will know why they gave him the name motor mouth.

  • A quiet night out

by Nana and Gramps on 28/04/2025Michael Fowler Centre - WellingtonRating: 3 out of 5

We found Ben's performance not quite to our taste. While his material was well observed, scripted and highly relevant to the times and his audience demographic, his frenetic pace meant that some of the lines were indecipherable. The acoustics at the MFC were quite bad that night too - too loud to the point of an echo-ey distortion, but possibly because we were at the extreme side of the venue under the next tier up. And your wife is right, Ben - the first half is too long! Sorry to say we left at half time.

  • Fantastic evening. Insightful, funny, enthralling. Great!

by Stewart on 27/04/2025Michael Fowler Centre - WellingtonRating: 5 out of 5

With the energy of a much younger man and the wisdom of a much older man Ben Elton treated us to a fantastic evening at the Michael Fowler. His energy steams through over 2 hours of deep dive into todays issues and he maintains a level of funny that is astounding. You may not like all that he says but his insight, knowledge and intelligence makes for the highest level of standup entertainment today. A great night out, thank you.

  • Overwhelmingly too long

    by DeeDee6 on 27/04/2025Michael Fowler Centre - WellingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Some bits were really funny. I love Ben Elton's writing so I thought it would be hysterical but not far into the second half I felt like I'd gone out with my mum and she'd stopped to talk to someone and just when I thought we were going to start moving again they'd start on a whole new subject that was going to take another day to talk through. Ben's an awesome force, just not my thing really.

  • Still got the attitude

by John on 23/04/2025Sir Owen Glenn Theatre - RotoruaRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Elton was great! Still has the same acerbic wit and intelligence as his youth
