Oh, the things you can think! When Dr. Seuss’ most beloved characters come together in an unforgettable musical adventure, prepare to be transported to a fantastical & wacky world in this musical extravaganza.
Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and all your favourite Dr. Seuss characters burst onto the stage in Seussical, a Tony-winning musical extravaganza created by the talented duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. From the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Among them is Jojo, a Who child who gets into trouble for thinking too many “thinks.”
Horton’s mission becomes twofold: he must protect the Whos from the naysayers and dangers of the world and also guard an abandoned egg entrusted to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and even a trial - while the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz battles through her own improbable series of challenges to stand by his side. Can they save Who?
Ultimately, the production explores the power of friendship, loyalty, family, and community, reminding us that “a person’s a person, no matter how small.”
The Little Umbrella season of Seussical is performed by a cast of over 200 incredibly talented young performers from across Auckland, showcasing the future of performing arts.

Very good and different take on Alice in Wonderland, with a cast of hundreds.
It was great to see the National Youth Theatre's performance in a well produced show, and in a quality venue. The singing in particular was at a high standard for young people. The set design, costumes, and music was also impressive. The staff at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre were good as they always are. These events are an affordable option to see a good show.
A real privilege to see the stars of tomorrow performing today. Couldn't believe the number of kids on stage, all obviously having a ball - and the quality of the performance was just outstanding. Wonderful to see a live band too - they rocked! The future of theatre is in great hands.
Brilliant. Congratulations to all who put the hard work into making this production the success it was. It was wonderful to watch. And Elvis, you star! You were seriously impressive.
Simply the best interpretation of Joseph &his Technicolor Dreamcoat I've ever seen . Was wowed from the first minute the curtain raised. Would say, Pharoah, Joseph , sole the show, but so did the huge children's choir, whose voices and songs gave me joyous goosebumps and emotional tummy flutters . Thankyou for exhilarating performances and a truly uplifting show . More, More , More xx
This has to be one of the best shows we've been to. From start to finish it held everyone's attention. Even our 6yrs old grandson sit relatively still. The music was gr8; the acting was superb with so many young people on stage all performing their best; Joseph had an amazing voice and Pharaoh had everyone wanting to get up and dance. The lighting and sound affects were awesome. It was non-stop action and lots to see and hold the audiences attention.
Seemed there was too much focus on precision and not enough on letting the kids have fun. The tickets were a little pricey - as proven by the very large amount of empty seats.
