The Tuning Fork is excited to announce the return of Canadian alt. country songstress Lindi Ortega to The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork for one New Zealand show on Tuesday 14 November.

After wowing the audience with her high-energy performance at the Southern Fork Americana Fest in 2016, the award-winning Lindi Ortega is back with her latest release, Til The Goin’ Gets Gone. A distinctly different sound to her previous honkytonk sound, Til The Goin’ Gets Gone effortlessly highlights her tender vocals amid sparse, atmospheric production.

Part of Ortega’s inspiration for the stripped back sound of her current EP came from fan suggestions. “I would put out these little videos on Instagram and people would suggest I do something acoustic and stripped down,” she says, “and I thought, ‘well, now it's time to listen.’ To have the lyrics speak and the vocals speak. I'd love to do a whole record like this.” These tracks have allowed the depth of her vocal range and dynamics to shine as well as spotlighting her astute storytelling lyrics.

A dogged resilience permeates this unadorned collection, three originals and a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Waiting ‘Round To Die.” The songs are the hard-won spoils of an internal war with words that struck after an extended stretch of touring, addressed in the EP’s title track about the detours and ditches that a travelling musician faces.

Ortega’s guitar-playing and innate country music instincts have earned her success with both indie cred and mainstream country recognition. From supporting Carrie Underwood in her all-female backing band at the Country Music Awards in 2016 to her opening slot on Chris Stapleton’s Canadian arena tour earlier this year, Ortega is a sought-after personality in the alt. country music community and beyond.

“Til the Goin' Gets Gone is a departure from much of Ortega's previous work and its honkytonking, rockabilly orchestration, putting her haunting vocals at center stage and leaning on simple, stark production.
